Uni
Japanese-made pencils, gel pens and correction tools.
About Uni
Uni is the brand name of Mitsubishi Pencil, which has been making writing instruments in Japan since 1887. The Uni brand covers a different segment from Uni-Ball: traditional pencils, the Signo range of gel pens, and the Correction pen series. Both brands share the same Japanese manufacturing standards and the same parent company.
The Uni pencil range is known for a consistent, smooth core and casing that sharpens cleanly. The Signo gel pen uses a water-based pigment gel ink that is smudge and fade resistant - the Signo 307 in particular has become the reference gel pen for planners and journal writers who want the thinnest possible line. The Correction range covers correction pens and tape.
The key distinction if you are deciding between Uni and Uni-Ball: Uni is the house brand covering pencils and the Signo gel range; Uni-Ball is the sub-brand built specifically around rollerball ink technology. Both are worth knowing about; which one you need depends on the product type.
